MOSSY NOTES

Mossy Notes evoke the earthy, damp greenness of forest floors and tree bark, blending natural freshness with soft, mineralic depth. Inspired by oakmoss and treemoss, these notes are woody, slightly leathery, and darkly green, grounding a composition with natural realism. Used as base notes, they provide a chypre-like sophistication and pair beautifully with woods, florals, and patchouli to evoke timeless elegance and nature’s quiet power.

History & Production: Traditional mossy notes were based on oakmoss absolute, harvested from oak bark; however, due to allergenic regulations, synthetic moss substitutes like Evernyl and Isoraldeine are often used today. These synthetics emulate the damp, foresty character while complying with safety standards. Perfumers layer them with woods and herbal notes to recreate the classic mossy-woody signature seen in chypre or forest-inspired fragrances.
